I’m a firm believer in the mysticism that is the girl crush. There are women I look to daily for inspiration and advice and I just all around respect. Some of my girl crushes are career based, some I envy because of their humor or other quirky personality traits. But my deepest, most intense girl crushes revolve around style.
I know I talk about it in almost all my posts but for me style is fascinating. It’s universal but it’s never replicated. It’s literally everywhere you look but constantly evolving. Even people who think they could never dress well have style. Not having a style IS a style! Make sense? I know, I’m a little overboard obsessed but to me, style is something that brings us all together and I think that’s pretty cool.
There are two women in particular whose style and all around fashion attitude I covet. I try to possess a bit of both in my every day life. These women are so interesting to me because they seem to be opposites of each other. One has the most exquisite eye for sophistication and effortless class. The other embraces the street style, grunge look and then tweaks it with a bit of her London charm. Their combined style is something I aspire to have. My two embarrassingly large, sappy, and all around obsessive girl crushes are on Olivia Palermo and Alexa Chung.
Because we’re friends, I’m going to be honest with all of you. I am pretty much an avid groupie for all things British; Alexa Chung is no exception. Chung first started her career as a model but segued into television, radio, and print. She is a fashion powerhouse and has been described as this generation’s Kate Moss. I think she is in a different league completely. She is quirky beautiful and has this “I don’t give a ****” attitude that commands introspective thought. She turns your head on the street because you just can’t figure her out. Chung has a knack for making the unsexiest trend surprisingly attractive. She rocks Chuck Taylors like they are stilettos and mixes in vintage pieces like she bought them at Madewell. She is the living, breathing epitome of courage translated into fashion.
Also a model, Olivia Palermo has the drop dead gorgeous factor without question. With legs for days and hair that makes me disgustingly envious, she is easily one of the most stunning women in the fashion industry. Although she got a bad rep on The City, Olivia strikes me as a no nonsense type. Not really my cup of tea but I absolutely die over the way that attitude trickles into her wardrobe. With sleek lines and beautiful tailoring, Olivia knows exactly what looks good on her body. She is one of those lucky women who will never be caught off guard in an outfit. Her look screams “I wear this everyday” with a touch of “I’m going to wear this blazer once and throw it away.” Not for everyone, but her timeless, yet youthful take on glamour will never go out of style.
If I could mix these two women together I’m positive I would create the best dressed woman in the world. Although both of these women are city dwellers, I think my supreme combination of grush (girl crush, obviously) is the perfect example of Southern and City. These are two women, from two different countries, both with impeccable, irreplaceable style. Both chic, eclectic, and flawlessly to true themselves, these two women would both look amazing in S&C clothes. And the best part? They would create such different looks with the same items and that is exactly what this brand is all about.
So who are you crushing on? I’d love to hear some feedback in our comments section, on Twitter, or on Facebook! I know I’m not the only one out there who googles their girls for go-to looks! Let me know who I should be watching!
